The red gelcoat on this Maxum had lost some of its depth and shine. We used a carefully controlled machine-polishing process to restore richer colour, clearer reflections and a more even gloss, before applying UV wax protection.A red boat should look red. Not faded, hazy and tired. The owner of this Maxum had a sports boat with a striking red finish. But over time, the gelcoat had lost some of the colour depth and gloss that made it stand out.Dull areas, surface marks and fender rubbing were affecting the appearance. The boat was still red, but the finish no longer had the same richness or clarity. The challenge wasn't simply to make it shiny.Gelcoat is a finite surface. Every correction removes a small amount of material, so the aim was to improve the finish without cutting more aggressively than necessary. We assessed the condition of the surface and worked through a progressive machine-polishing process using Farécla Profile compounds, adjusting the correction and refinement as needed.During the work, we also tested an additional finishing stage. It didn't give us the clarity we wanted, so we left it out rather than compromise the result.Once the finish had been refined, we applied Farécla Profile UV Wax to provide a protective finish. The difference was in the depth of the red.The gelcoat had a richer colour, clearer reflections and a more consistent gloss. The dullness was reduced, and the boat's distinctive red finish became the feature again. For owners, that's the value of considered gelcoat restoration: improving the appearance while respecting the surface you're working with.Has your boat's colour lost its depth or shine? Bright Boat can assess the finish and recommend an appropriate level of correction.
